Shaping the World as we Know it
The Innovations of Technology and Communication in the American Society
Automania
Living a suburbian life style made owning a car a must. Most suburbs were built in rural areas and they had no other form on transportation. Schools, work and many religous temples were not within walking distance. This must lead to the innovation of the interstate highway system. The need for cars prompted the government to contruct roads that linked to major cities. In 1956, president Eisenhower, signed The Interstate Highway Act, which developed a highway of over 41,000 miles.
New Products
In 1956, hundereds of new products were being developed, with the extra leisure time Americans had. Products such as: televisions, tape recorders and new record players.
Advertisment
In the 1950s advertisments were everywhere to be found. They were in magazines, newspapers, on the radio and in the television. They also created bill boards to put near the highway as people drove by.
